Sovereign Grace Baptist Church of Topeka

Pastoral Search

Our congregation is looking for a pastor.

Our pastor (Mark Langley) would like to retire after around 40 years of service. So, we seek a suitable replacement.

We are looking for someone who is called to eldership (1 Timothy 3:1) and meets the biblical qualifications outlined in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1.

We would like someone to be with us for a time that we might become acquainted with him and he with us. We would like to see him learn or show himself to be fit for the office.

We are also looking for candidates who believe as we do regarding Scripture:

  • We subscribe to the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith, and desire any prospective candidate would as well (including the 1644, 1646, 1677 confessions, or the New Hampshire Confession).
  • Any candidate should embrace the doctrine of the Christian Sabbath, and should seek to sanctify the Lord's Day by word and example.
  • We use the Authorized King James Version of the Bible in conducting the public means of grace, although we do not seek to apply any uniform rule regarding the private use of Bible translations by its members.
  • We want to maintain our practice of exclusive psalmody in congregational singing, as many of us are persuaded in this conviction.
  • Regarding eschatology, we would prefer a candidate who ascribes to an amillennial view, looking for the imminent return of Christ, though we are willing to consider those who hold to certain historical premillennial, and postmillennial views.

We pray that these things will be well-received among those who love Christ and his kingdom, and look for His coming.

If you meet these requirements, please send information (a letter and your résumé/C.V.) to our search committee (search@sgbctopeka.org).

We would also appreciate your forwarding this to appropriate candidates.

Thank you.
